Healthy Habits: The Art of Lunch
Bonjour Beautiful Things! Hopefully your weekend was full of twirls and whirls, leaps and bounds, baking sweet treats, scary movies, bright flowers, bike rides and prank phone calls!
Today we are discussing your favorite hour of the day: lunch! If you eat junk at noontime, you'll soon feel too drained to sparkle like a ballerina must! To master this matinée meal, a ballerina needs to plan ahead. Packing a lunch the night before will ensure enough time to wash fruit, chop veggies and spin up a killer sandwich or salad. Lunch should never be boring or bland. Think: colorful, fresh and fun!

Wear & Hair: Tutu Heaven
Nothing beats a dazzling tutu.
Last year, the National Ballet of Canada celebrated its 60th anniversary by gathering 60 stunning tutus in a collection called The Tutu Project. The exhibit included stunning vintage costumes, and tutus created by community organizations and partners and friends of the National Ballet. Divine designers and artists also contributed to the Project. The result: beyond lovely.
Throwback Thursday: Picasso Boogie
Iconic Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso adored dance, too! In the early 1900s he even created costumes and set designs for Serge Diaghilev's Ballet Russes Parade. The dancing painter also painted dancers, and even married a ballerina.
Most lovely Picasso quote: "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
Créer/Create: Calling All Wild Things!
Now that we all have dancing animals on the brain, let's use these wonderful creatures as inspiration for new movement!
Choose one of the critters from yesterday's French Lesson and invent movement for this animal character. Use their honorary ballet step somewhere in your phrase. Express your creature character through little details- your head and hand placement, or your posture. Note what kind of movement you are using... small and quick, graceful and smooth, sneaky, showy, spastic?
Here's some wildly wonderful examples of animal characters from fabulous ballets:

Now, my dears, the best breakfast idea you will ever taste:
Busy Ballerina Overnight Oats:
Whip up this divine dish before bed and let it set in the refrigerator overnight. Perfect for saving precious morning minutes!
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds (a ballerina superfood!)

Rouge: gives a charming rosy glow, creates contrast and contours the face
Shadow, Liner and Lashes: intensify and accent the eyes... make them bigger, bolder, more expressive
Lipstick: strengthens mouth shape

Throwback Thursday: SAB
Now we can all spend this dreamy Thursday imagining life as a student at New York's School of American Ballet in the 1930s. To be a Balanchine Babe dressed in fluff, gazing across Madison Avenue! What could be lovelier?
You can find more stunning photos for your SAB daydreams at LIFE!
Créer/Create: Ballerina Book Worms
Ok, divine dance-makers- here's this week's creative dance idea!
Choose an interesting character from a book you have read. Create movement in the personality of this character. Try to express their inner thoughts, motives and emotions through your dancing, rather than retelling the story's plot.
Memorize, or find a helper to read, a meaningful paragraph from the book while you dance your movement.
A clever mid-week performance!

Parlez-vous Français?
Bonjour gals! I'm sure you are all oh so busy perfecting your French accents. Here are a few more terms to keep your brains shiny and sharp!
Devant: in front of the body (ex. a tendu devant is a tendu front)
Derrière: in back of the body (ex. a degagè derrière is a degagè back)
Avant: moving forwards (ex. a jetè en avant moves forward toward the audience)
Arrière: moving backwards (ex. a sissonne en arrière moves backwards away from the audience)

Healthy Habits: Happy and Hydrated!
Obviously we all want a water break after 100 sweaty changements, but its way important to stay hooked to your H2O bottle beyond the studio, too!
Here's just a few reasons why this clear liquid is magical for bombshell ballerinas like you:
Water helps your bod build muscle, which means you will jump higher, move faster, and soar farther!
When you are très hydrated, your skin will twinkle and glow under the stage lights. The audience will fall in love with you!
Water improves focus and brain function. Your teacher will fall in love with you!
When you were up too late calling cute boys, sipping on extra eau will help energize you through an early weekend rehearsal.
H2O also helps your body fight off evil germs that may have escaped from the sneezy baby ballerinas who were grabbing the barre before you.
If you're not head over heels for H2O, doll it up with a slice of lemon, lime, orange, or even cucumber!
But don't forget, plastic water bottles are the worst! Do the globe good and seek out a reusable container.
